The scientific name of sesame, which belongs to the family Pedaliaceae, is sesamum indicum.
There are two types of sesame, white and black.Sesame is grown in all non-waterlogged paddy fields.
Today, India and China are the two major producers.

Chemicals in sesame.

The seeds contain about 46% oil, 22% protein and 18% lubricant. The oil contains about one percent sesamin and sesamolin.
